          It is official that we will be implementing our distance learning plans effective Monday, March 30, 2020.  That said, the official plan document will be posted on the district website on Friday at the latest.  I can outline the plans in brief.  Falls Elementary will be sending a weekly packet with materials from your child’s teacher.  This will have guidance for expectations for the week and printed work.  Each teacher will be doing individual and group contact in a variety of ways.  They will be doing this via phone calls, google classroom, facebook, zoom, and the list goes on.  There will be individual contact and teachers are willing to work with you to meet the demands of time to the best of our abilities.  It is going to be a challenge, but we will do our best.  Please communicate what you need with the individual teachers.  Falls High School is mainly using google classroom the distance learning platform.  Each child has a google account and should be trying to get logged in.  They will have a homeroom to check into and answer a question daily.  That is used mainly for attendance.  They will also have a classroom for each of their regular classes.  Teachers will be assigning work and communicating through the google classroom.  Please contact teachers if you have questions or need help.  Teachers will be flexible, but this is the new form of school and participation is expected.  Families without technology will have printed materials provided and teachers will communicate via phone with them.  Students should try to devote the regular time period to each of their classes as teachers will be available for each class at their regular scheduled time. 

Thank you to all the families that picked up their child’s personal belongings and supplies for the first week of distance learning.  It is a period of high stress in so many ways and I want you to be aware that staff will work through any hurdle we encounter to make this the best that we can.  Teachers are stressed right alongside of you as this is a new endeavor for all of us.  Please be patient and things will come together.

         

Items not picked up will be delivered starting Thursday.  We will not leave items if no one is at home.  If you need items dropped at an alternative location, please call transportation department at 283-2571 ext. 1300.

          Technology is one of the main ways teachers are trying to communicate with students and families.  This is definitely a new endeavor and the district will help in any way we can with issues you are facing.  We have 2 options set up for technology help, either call 283-2571 ext. 1151 or email techsupport@isd361.org   Please keep in mind over the next few days we forecast a high help need so it may take a little time to get back to you, please be patient.  We will work through the issues over the first week of distance learning and hopefully get it to be as smooth as possible.  We encourage FHS students to try getting logged into their Google classrooms as soon as possible.  There is no work to be assigned until next week, but we want to try to work out any issues prior to the period in which classes are to be running.  Again we will support any families with printed resources as well if there becomes a hang up with the technology. 

          Minnesota State High School League issued a statement that all activities continue to be suspended while distance learning is taking place.  In other words, no decision will be made until students are back in the building.
