Learning Plan update Grades 9-12 will remain in hybrid learning (in-person 2 days per week) for the remainder of the school year unless another outbreak were to happen. Decision was made this morning to not bring these grades back to 4 days per week with the inability to adequately social distance in classrooms and risk having larger numbers of students needing to quarantine if a positive case occurs with a student or staff member with the small amount of time remaining. Any questions, please contact the high school office.
Is your student interested in learning more about the new One Act Play program coming to International Falls? If you have students who participate in theater, here is their chance to show off their skills in a competitive setting as part of the new One Act Play program. The season will begin in fall of 2021 and competitions are in January of 2022. There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, May 26 @ 6pm at the Falls HS Cafeteria. Next year's grades 7-12 are invited to come to learn more about the new program at Falls MS/HS. Parents are welcome to attend as well!
The state of Minnesota has provided schools the ability to offer free Covid-19 saliva tests for use by students. We support the program and are opening it up to families if they want their child to participate. If you want your child to participate, they need to return the signed consent form. These forms will be sent home with students on Friday and Monday. Testing will occur on Tuesday, May 4th and Thursday, May 6th depending on which day they attend school. If distance learners want to participate, they can come at any time on either of those days. Testing is available for students in grades 6 - 12. Testing will occur every other week. Extracurricular participants are encouraged and able to test weekly. Please consider allowing your child to test and results are emailed to the student.
Reminder: NO open family swim tonight due to lifeguard availability. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The school district is in the initial stages of discussion to determine if we will be offering distance learning next school year. We have not received specifics or guidelines from the state at this time but want to determine the need or family interest to get ahead of the game in determining if this is something we will offer moving forward. This survey or the results do not in any way guarantee that the district will be offering distance learning next year, we are only in an information gathering stage to continue the discussion to determine if it is in the best interest of families/students/district to continue with some form of distance learning. Your responses are greatly appreciated and will help us in making informed decisions for next school year. Please fill out one survey per school aged child in your household. This survey link can also be found on our school Facebook page. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf-tkw4VE33NudhP9-PBNKssKFbbqZ1YRjZ9UtjrTD5_gBYDg/viewform?usp=sf_link

This week in Community Ed. Highlights include the expansion of Family Open Swimming. The Community Garden is now taking reservations...call the Community Education office today! Safe Sitter has two open spots for the additional class to be held in May. Once those spots are filled, there won't be another class until next school year. Call to reserve your spot now if you want to get your student Safe Sitter training prior to the summer months.
Because the class is so popular, we've had outstanding response to the Safe Sitter classes. The company caps the number of participants at 8 per class. The May 1 class filled up in just a few short hours. However, we have decided to hold an additional class in May. This will be the LAST class before the 2021-22 school year resumes in the fall so you must Register ASAP! Please call the Community Education office at 218-283-2571 x1186 to get your child on the list. We don't yet have a date set, but you can expect probably either May 8, 15 or 22. It will be from 9am to 4pm so if that doesn't work for your families schedule, you'll have to plan on a class in the fall. Keep in mind these are Saturday days. Again, call soon as this class WILL fill up and will be the final class of this calendar school year. Open to students 11 years of age and older.
Good Morning, Falls High School will be resuming hybrid learning for grades 9-12 effective Monday, April 12th. Students should attend in-person on Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday as they previously did. Students choosing full distance learning will continue in that format. Reminder that if students are in a quarantine period, they need to finish that before returning in-person to school. Extracurricular activities may resume April 10th. Preschool through grade 8 will see no change in their learning model. Questions can be directed to either building office.

As of now, the International Falls swimming pool remains open. Please remember to wear a mask, wash your hands and social distance when in the locker rooms. We are asking that you adhere to the lane restrictions which were in place when the pool most recently reopened.
Good Evening, ISD 361 continues to see an upward trend in positive Covid-19 cases in students and staff, primarily in grades 9-12. This has impacted more than 100 students through positive cases and contact tracing and continues to grow. These numbers are the reason we will be changing learning models for grades 9-12 to full time distance learning effective Friday, March 26th. If students have all of their materials at home, I would encourage them to start distance learning tomorrow. If not, they can attend in-person tomorrow and bring all materials home with them so they are prepared for distance learning on Friday. This plan is effective through April 9th. I encourage families to continue to report positive cases to the school nurse so that we can track the trend of the virus and hopefully get back to in-person learning on April 12th. All extracurricular activities will be paused during this time. Please watch the district webpage under “news” for more in-depth updates along with Facebook. Food service will be available for pick up for distance learners. Preschool through grade 8 will continue in-person learning following the current schedule at this time. If you have questions, please call the high school office.
Falls High School has 2 more confirmed cases of Covid-19 from tests that were positive today. Close contacts were identified and instructed to quarantine. Reminder that if you are ill, you need to stay home. Continue to social distance, wear your mask, and wash your hands. If you have any questions, please call the high school office tomorrow. Thank you.
ISD 361 continues to see an increase in Covid-19 cases and are updating you that we had several additional cases at Falls High School since my last message on Thursday bring the current total to 11 students/staff at FHS and 1 student at FES that have tested positive for Covid-19. The majority of these cases appear to be linked to a common group. All close contacts were contacted prior to this message. I ask that you continue to mask, wash hands, and distance as much as possible. Please enforce quarantine for you child if they are directed to do this as we need to stop the spread so we do not jeopardize the in-person learning along with upcoming activities. Thank you for your help. MDE and MDH are encouraging students and families to voluntarily test for Covid-19 every 2 weeks. We offer it for employees and you can order a free Saliva test at the link below. To help with convenience students can complete the test and drop it in the office every other Tuesday beginning March 23rd and it can be shipped with our tests on Wednesday, March 24th (every other week). This would save you from having to go to a shipping location. Any questions, please ask. Order an at-home test at no cost Vault: No-Cost COVID Testing For All Minnesotans
ISD 361 Parents and Guardians, Falls Elementary had one student test positive today for Covid-19. Please continue to social distance, wear a mask, and wash your hands. From the school perspective we are seeing more cases than we have had in quite a while and we would like to curb this trend. Thanks for your help.

Dear Falls High School Parents and Guardians, This message is to inform you that we will be making our Learning Model adjustment for Falls High School on Monday, March 15th. Starting on this day, FHS will transition from a 2 day a week hybrid model to in person classes for all students on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesday’s will continue to be distance learning day for all with a homeroom check in. Families choosing in person should plan for this transition beginning next week. Families opting for distance learning will participate in that mode. We will continue to practice social distancing to the best of our abilities, masking is required, and continue cleaning/sanitization protocol. If you have any questions, please contact FHS at 283-2571. No change to the learning model at Falls Elementary School at this time.
If you were a part of the Dog Obedience class which had to be postponed due to COVID in 2020 and would like to take the upcoming class, please call the Community Education office at 218-283-2571 x1186. We will open the class to new students once the students we owe from 2020 have expressed their interest. Please only call if you were a part of the class from 2020. Additional students will be welcomed once we have our numbers set from those we still owe from the previous class. If you are not able to make it to this one, i.e. our friends who were registered from Ft. Frances, we will still honor your payment for a future class. Thank you!
Falls High School Parents, Thank you to those that have filled out the learning plan survey as we have 336 responses. We are short about 150 and that will be a lot of time and effort to physically call those families before we can commit to an implementation date. Please complete the survey or call the FHS office and give your response verbally. Survey closes today. Thank you again for your help. https://forms.gle/YkUqpLxyK2LqHiKf8
Try this again, apologize the post this morning has a link that is not working. FHS families we need your help getting 1 survey completed for each child that is enrolled at FHS. https://forms.gle/YkUqpLxyK2LqHiKf8 Falls High School Families, Falls High School is working on developing a plan to bring more students into the building for in-person learning. The tentative plan would be to allow students to attend Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Distance learning will continue to be an option for the rest of the year for families choosing this option. Students will need to select either in person 4 days a week or full time distance learning. Wednesday would continue to be a distance learning day for all students and allow staff time to manage the distance learners while continuing to plan for teaching in-person and remote learners. Local Covid-19 rates allow the district to take this next step and permit us to relax the spacing restrictions. We are committed to continuing the safety protocol put in place which includes students being required to wear face coverings and space students as much as possible. It is important that you realize as we take this next step, more students will be in each class and we will not be able to accommodate 6 foot spacing. One reason for this survey is to get a commitment so we can plan to accommodate classes that are larger and more difficult to space in. We may move some classes to larger rooms or look at options of splitting a class. We are looking at options for lunch to keep numbers as low as possible during this period. No final decisions will be made until we find out who will be here and who will elect/continue full time distance learning. We need information from you so that we can finalize our plan and set a date to make this transition happen. Please take a couple minutes to respond to the survey for each of your children in grades 6 – 12. We appreciate your help and will communicate final plans in the near future. Survey will close at the end of the day on 3-3-2021. Thank you in advance for your participation! https://forms.gle/YkUqpLxyK2LqHiKf8
COVID-19 Testing for Kids and Families MDH announced a recommendation for all school-age youth returning to school, youth sports, or extracurricular activities, and their families, to get tested every two weeks through the end of the school year. While it is not a requirement, regular testing complements other safety measures already in place, such as masking and social distancing. Schools and youth organizations can send messages and resources available on COVID-19 Testing for Kids and Families to families to encourage testing. Getting tested every two weeks from now until the end of the school year can help keep schools open and sports operating, and ensure we are limiting the spread of COVID-19. Specific information about ordering at home test kits at no cost to you can be found at the site below. https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/coronavirus/testsites/athome.html
Dear families, The State of Minnesota has announced the launch of the Minnesota COVID-19 Vaccine Connector, which is a tool that helps Minnesotans find out when, where and how to get their COVID-19 vaccine. This system is a proactive way for all Minnesotans to indicate their interest in receiving a vaccine, so that when they become eligible, they can be alerted and connected to resources to schedule a vaccine appointment. Below is some information about the Vaccine Connector that you may find helpful. Should I complete the Minnesota COVID-19 Vaccine Connector form? All Minnesotans who would like to receive a COVID-19 vaccine should fill out the form to ensure they stay updated on vaccination opportunities in their area when they become available. Who can get vaccinated now? Demand for vaccine far exceeds supply, and Minnesotans are encouraged to remain patient as more vaccine arrives in the weeks and months ahead. Minnesota is continuing to distribute vaccines using a phased approach to immunize for impact by focusing on populations with the highest risk of getting COVID-19, as well as those most at risk of severe illness and complications if they become infected. In Minnesota, you are eligible now to get vaccinated if you are a: • Minnesotan age 65 or older • Health care worker • Long-term care resident or staff member • Prekindergarten through Adult Basic and Community Education school staff member, or contracted school staff member • Child care staff member at a licensed and certified child care center or program How do I sign up? • Signing up for the Vaccine Connector is easy, safe and secure. • All Minnesotans 18 years of age and older should sign up, no matter their current vaccine eligibility status. • There will be no cost and no restricted time period for signing up. • Health insurance and personal identification forms are not required for signing up. • Go to mn.gov/vaccineconnector to sign up. • Minnesotans unable to sign up online can have family or friends help them sign up online, or call 833-431-2053 for assistance signing up over the phone. • Translation is available by phone in all languages. Minnesotans can call the translation hotlines at 833-431-2053 and 651-318-0989 for assistance signing up over the phone. • All Minnesotans have to do to sign up is provide basic information such as contact information, demographic data, medical history, and employment to determine their eligibility based on state guidelines. • The State of Minnesota is committed to the equitable distribution of safe and effective vaccines for protection against COVID-19 and the Vaccine Connector form has included questions about gender identity, sexual orientation, race, cultural identification, and disabilities to help us track and measure equity and fairness throughout the vaccine distribution process. These questions do have the option to select “prefer not to answer” or “none of the above,” and selecting these answers will not prevent you from signing up for the Vaccine Connector. What happens after I fill out the Minnesota COVID-19 Vaccine Connector form? As more vaccine becomes available, the Minnesota COVID-19 Vaccine Connector will send you updates about your COVID-19 vaccine eligibility and opportunities to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Minnesota. In the months ahead as vaccine supply increases, the Vaccine Connector will help Minnesotans know where vaccine is in the state, find out when they are eligible to get it, and connect them to a vaccine opportunity near them — no matter where they live or their personal circumstances. Before and after you are vaccinated, it’s important to continue to take simple steps to slow the spread of illness by wearing a mask, staying 6 feet away from others, washing your hands, and staying home whenever possible For more information, please visit https://mn.gov/covid19/vaccine/ The Vaccine Connector is open to all Minnesotans. Please feel free to share this information with your family, friends and others who may be interested. Thank you, Kevin Grover

Happy Holidays from ISD 361. We wish our students, families, and staff a safe and joyous holiday break. Please remember to social distance and keep gatherings as small as possible. Wear your mask when appropriate and wash/sanitize hands. These actions are driving Covid numbers down and that is where we want to be when we return in 2021. Enjoy some outdoor activities and get some time off of our electronic devices. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2021. The graphs on our webpage highlighting effects of the pandemic (https://www.isd361.k12.mn.us/) will likely take a break as we will not have consistent data, but we will update as data allows.
12/18/2020 International Falls Public Schools Families and Staff, School officials were notified today of a positive case of Covid-19 at Falls Elementary School. The family or families of the student who have had direct contact have been notified and have been sent home to quarantine. Upon advice from legal counsel, due to privacy laws, including HIPAA and FERPA, the district cannot divulge further information regarding staff members or students. If you have not been notified of a potential direct contact involving you or your children in school, you should continue to attend school or report to your employment assignment as normal. Students and adults in classrooms where a positive case was detected will be notified of an infection in that classroom by phone call or text message the same day as the infection was detected. This will allow parents the option to keep students home if they choose to do that. Please be reminded that the protocols outlined in the International Falls Public Schools Restart Blueprint Plan are critical to the continuation of Hybrid Learning at our elementary, high school, and ALC. Each person in our community can do their part by performing daily health screenings, wearing a mask, maintaining physical distance, and washing/sanitizing their hands frequently. We will continue to coordinate with the Koochiching County Health Department. It is our intent to keep you informed as we continue to learn how to live in this COVID-19 environment. Sincerely, Kevin Grover Superintendent of Schools
Governor Walz yesterday extended the closure of all public swimming pools thru Jan. 10. We will reevaluate and wait for guidance from the state regarding reopening for morning swimming as of Jan. 11, 2021. However, it is possible that the governor could once again extend the closure. We appreciate your patience on this matter and look forward to serving you once the governor ascertains it is safe to do so. Any questions call Daniel McGonigle at the Community Education office 218-283-2571 x1186.
Thank you to the Safety Process Bucks and PCA for the generous donation to the Firearm's Safety Class through Community Education of International Falls. We appreciate your efforts in helping to educate our students in the important field of firearm safety!
Attention all 9-12th graders. Senior High Knowledge Bowl will be starting up in the next few weeks. If you would like to be a part of one of our teams, please sign up by Tuesday, December 8th. You may sign up in the main office, or by contacting Coach Cipriano by email or phone. Her email is firstname.lastname@example.org, phone extension is 1255. Knowledge Bowl is a quiz-based extracurricular activity where teams compete against teams from other schools. The weekly practice commitment is an average of less than an hour a week, and is flexible with other activities, such as sports. You do not have to be a "straight-A" student to join, we encourage anyone with an interest to come and check it out.
Per the Governor's executive order, the International Falls swimming pool will be closed from Friday, Nov. 20 at 11:59pm thru Friday, December 18 also at 11:59 pm. The pool will be open for morning swim on Friday, Nov. 20 but, unfortunately, that will be the last open swim for 2020 as the Dec. 18 date goes right into Christmas break for the campus. We've appreciated our swimmers, our families and the patience you've shown regarding the swimming pool. We look to 2021 when the virus is hopefully behind us, to make full use of the pool and have it open as often as possible. Again, thank you for your patience.
Midco has informed us of a work-a-around for those using a VPN for work. The VPN device needs a wired connection to the Midco router. District Chromebooks should work as expected.
11-17-2020 update: Dear ISD 361 Families, This is Superintendent Kevin Grover. I am pleased to report that with further guidance from MDE, MDH, and local public health; ISD 361 will be able to continue with our original 2020 learning model moving forward. That means the elementary will continue in-person learning and will not go to distance learning next week. Falls High school will have the Thursday/Friday group of students back in the building effective Thursday, November 19th. All co and extracurricular activities will resume immediately. The recent executive order by Governor Walz requiring additional preparation time for teachers will reduce the days elementary students are in the building. The 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month students will not be in school, please plan accordingly. This will begin November 25th. Guidance is being modified as the pandemic continues and the guiding numbers that were to be a baseline for our decision are taking less of a driving force and a more focused approach on the specific number of students, staff, and families that are affected by the pandemic in each building. I thank you for your patience and the desire is to continue to have students and staff in the building as long as it remains safe. Any questions, please contact either office.
Morning swim returns Thursday, Nov. 19. Times remain the same, 6.30 to 7.30 am. Please wear your masks at all times while not in the pool. Social distance, come dressed to swim leave with minimal use of the locker facilities. As cases continue to rise, our number one goal is to keep our students and their environment as safe as possible for onsite learning. Please help do your part for our students. We appreciate it and remember, stay safe.
The Tuesday evening Taekwondo classes will be postponed for the moment. We will look to return once the learning model at the school returns to the hybrid or full in person learning. We appreciate your understanding.
Due to the change in the current learning model, the International Falls HS morning open swim will be closed during the week of Nov. 16-20. We will make some decisions regarding future weeks in the coming days. Stay safe.
Good morning: It is with a heavy heart that we are planning a change to the learning model that we are currently in at the high school and elementary. We continue to work with the Minnesota Department of Health, Minnesota Department of Education, and local health officials to make decisions. This decision is not easy as the best place for education to be conducted for students is in our buildings. Our hope is that this decision will give families adequate time to make arrangements and we hope that this will be a short term shift. The elementary will stay in person and transition to full distance learning on Monday, November 23rd. The rationale behind staying for an additional week at the elementary school is to allow parents time to make childcare arrangements as well as to give the district time to organize our childcare. This will give staff and students one week to solidify distance learning platforms and provide any necessary instruction regarding our distance learning platforms. The additional week also allows for gathering and distribution of necessary materials while preparing our youngest learners to transition to distant learners. We will continue to monitor our building levels during the week as we prepare to transition to distance learning on Monday November 23, 2020. There will be no distance learning for preschool and current preschool students will return to in-person learning as soon as numbers allow. Tuition will be prorated. If you will need school aged childcare and are eligible under the Tier I worker status, please complete the survey that can be accessed on our district Facebook page. Falls High school will transition to full distance learning beginning on November 16th. The current schedule will stay in place where students are expected to zoom in for classes at scheduled times on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday with work assigned for Wednesday along with their homeroom check in. Foodservice will be available at the 3 pickup locations for families that register to get meals provided. Extracurricular activities will be halted while in distance learning. Our goal is to get back to in-person learning as soon as numbers stabilize and recede to an acceptable level for the safety of students and staff. We understand that this is not the desired model for students or staff, but we appreciate your support over the past couple months and we are committed to returning as soon as possible. More information to come in the days ahead as all details are worked out. Thank you. Kevin Grover Superintendent
10-29-2020 (2nd case) Falls Schools Families and Staff, School officials were notified this afternoon of 1 positive case of COVID-19 at International Falls Elementary School. To be clear this is our 2nd case today, 1 @ FES and 1 @ FHS. If you have not been notified of a potential direct contact involving you or your children in school, you should continue to attend school or report to your employment assignment as normal. Students and adults in classrooms and activities where the positive case was detected were notified of the infection in that premises by phone call or message. This will allow parents the option to keep students home if they choose to do that. Each person in our community can do their part by performing daily health screenings, wearing a mask, maintaining physical distance, and washing/sanitizing their hands frequently.

A Friendly Reminder from International Falls High School to students attending football games and park at the west end of the field behind the scoreboard. We have had many complaints about the student behavior from the students that parked/sat behind the fence on the west end of the field last Thursday. The complaints were inappropriate language and derogatory remarks that were directed at the visiting team and visiting spectators. This behavior will not be tolerated, and if it continues this area will be closed off for spectating the football games. Go to the games and have fun and cheer your team on , but do it with respect for the visiting team and spectators. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
To: Constituents in Aitkin, Carlton, Cass, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, Pine and St. Louis Counties: We’re writing to you today to ask for your help. We are four weeks into the year and already schools in our seven-county region have had to adjust their learning models from either in-person to hybrid or hybrid to distance learning due to sharp increases in positive COVID-19 cases. This is disappointing for everyone involved. We have been given requirements from the Minnesota Department of Health that we are following, and it is working. Across the state, there has been minimal transmission within schools. However, officials at MDH have said the COVID-19 virus is, for the most part, spreading outside of school – transmission is happening in community settings and at family and social gatherings. We want our kids in school as much as possible. You, the great people in our communities, have said you also want our kids in school. We know of only one way that gives us the best chance at safely keeping our kids in school, sports, and activities. We need your help. This information is nothing you haven’t already heard, but bears repeating as it’s going to take all of us to make a difference. Please – help us keep cases low and our kids in school by following the very clear guidelines offered by MDH: Avoid crowds. Keep family and social gatherings outdoors. Stay 6 feet from others. Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Stay home when sick. Do it for our kids. Youth Firearm safety for the fall has been cancelled. Parents who wish to have their son or daughter participate in this program are encouraged to visit the MN DNR site and search "Apprentice certificate." Students 12-14 are eligible to receive this certificate and can still hunt with a parent or guardian. Students 14 or older can take the 'virtual field day' portion online and once you've passed, will be eligible to hunt. Apprenticeship vouchers will be honored by the DNR when we are able to once again, host Firearms safety classes in person. This decision was handed down by the MN DNR regarding COVID-19. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

10-1-2020 update: Good Afternoon, Happy October 1st and there are snowflakes in the air. Normally I would be amazed that it was already October, but it has been a long month with the uncertainty of how school would work and rolling with the needed changes. That said, please keep the lines of communication open if you or your child are having issues. The district is committed to finding solutions for issues that we can. I again want to thank families for following the guidance and screening students before they come to school. Please remind your child to continue to wear their mask, social distance, and wash their hands. These are key to keeping us in school as much as we are. I am happy to announce that the district will be moving to a federal food program that will make meals free for the foreseeable future for all students. This program will begin on Tuesday, October 6th. Students that are not in the building will need to register for meals and which site that they want them picked up at. This program is open to any students that resides in the school district. Please reserve meals weekly at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdsS17_Vbki084FtR5LdzAumCWevOpU3dYPJ1bu4hlZYt7AOw/viewform. We are working on having the ability to send home with the students prepared meals for school days students are not here. It would be a cold breakfast or lunch such as a sandwich, chips, and apple. These meals would be different than what is served daily and able to be picked up daily. They would be sent home with your child on the last day of the week that they are in session or you could request this type meal so that you didn’t have to pick meals up daily, but it will be a different meal. Watch for the updated order form. Reminder that Monday, October 5th is a scheduled in-service day and students are not in session. This means that there is not childcare and students will not have work to do. No need to zoom or check in, it is a student day off. Take care, stay safe, and go Broncos! Superintendent Grover

Good Afternoon, Thank you to students, families, and staff for your diligence in screening yourself prior to coming to school. We want all of you here every day, but during this time we need people that are not feeling well to stay home. This is inconvenient for families with younger learners and we feel for the difficulties put on families. The best chance for maintaining in-person learning of any form is to practice the recommended protocol. Stay home when ill or you have any symptoms, wash your hands, use hand sanitizer when washing is not an option, social distance, wear a mask, and keep your hands off of your face. Working together we are hopeful we can maintain the current model. We are happy that we can be in person and offer the opportunities that we can. As more opportunities afford themselves at school along within the community, it is important that we all work together to practice these safety measures here as well as in the community. Outbreaks at school or in the community will have similar affects and move us backwards. Please help us and remind each other to wear a mask and practice social distancing wherever you are at. We are only as good as our weakest link. Students and staff want to be in school, but we need everyone’s help. Thank you in advance for continuing to talk with your students about best practices. We appreciate your support. Go Broncos!

9-17-2020 update: It has been wonderful to have students back in the buildings this week and look forward to the last group of high school students coming tomorrow. Students and staff have been more than flexible and have made the return to school work at this time. The slow roll out over this past week may have been an inconvenience for families and students, but I am happy to say it allowed us the ability to ensure our procedures would work as planned. We will continue to make minor adjustments as needed throughout the year. That said, we will move to the next phase of our hybrid learning plan effective Monday,September 21st. Preschool through grade 5 students will be in session 5 days a week and students attending solely as distance learners will have materials provided via Seesaw or Google Classroom and have opportunities to interact via zoom sessions. Students in grades 6 through 12 will attend in person either Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday based on the group they are assigned to. Students not in the building will zoom in during their assigned hours and will use Google Classroom as the means to receive and return coursework. If families need assistance, please reach out to your child’s teacher or either of the offices for help. Thank you for your patience as we all learn to navigate this new way of learning. Go Broncos!

8-27-2020 update: Greetings from ISD 361. Families with a child or children enrolled in Falls Elementary should have received a mailing this week with teacher assignments. Included in that letter is information on the days your child or children will attend school for the week of September 14th. In the event your children are on different days, reach out to the FES office and they will work to correct that. If you didn’t receive a letter, please let us know and we will get you the information. Falls High School schedules should go live in Skyward sometime Friday. The back to school mailing is being printed and should hit the mail Friday, so look for that early next week. Meet the Teacher event for both schools was pushed back to September 10th. Information is included in the mailing about that. Attached is the Restart Blueprint that outlines the plans that have been considered and much of the protocol that will be followed within the schools. It is our guiding document and will be amended as we find things that need to be more specific or need to change. Please reach out to the elementary or high school offices if you have questions. Thanks for your patience. Restart Blueprint: https://5il.co/k9y3
The school board approved a hybrid plan for the start of the 2020-21 school year earlier this week. The approved plan has a focus on educating the students in our district to the best of our ability during this trying time with safety being paramount. We understand that there are still many questions that remain on exactly how everything will roll out, but more information is will come shortly. Elementary classes and teacher assignments are scheduled to be sent out early next week. High school schedules will go live next week as well, just not sure exactly what day. For each building there will be specific information on the slow roll out, back to school open house, distance learning (if it pertains), electronic devices distribution, transportation, and the list goes on. We are also planning to start assembling the back to school mailing next week with the hopes of getting it out by the end of the week. We appreciate your patience and understand the inconvenience of not knowing all the details. Please feel free to contact the elementary or high school office if you have specific questions. Any family that is not comfortable with the hybrid model may choose 100% distance learning. 7-31-2020 Thank you to the 400 responses we have received in the the first 24 hours that the family survey has been open. This information is critical to help in sucessful planning. Please take the survey for each child you have enrolled and please help spread the word to other families. Stay safe. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CJNGXWR

The Berry's received a large donation of re-usable face masks from Pastor Sarah Marshall of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brainerd and provided them to help keep students and staff safe. The donation is much appreciated!
7-24-2020 update Greetings, Staff continue to plan for the upcoming school year and work through the 3 possible scenarios. We are patiently waiting for further direction from Governor Walz, MDE, and MDH which will come July 30th. Following the release of information next week, we will work quickly to summarize what our plan will look like. At that point we are going to release a survey in which we need input from every family in our district so that we can finalize and assure our plans will work. If we are allowed to have a percentage of students in the building each day, transportation could be the impeding obstacle. We will need to know if families will be needing to and from school transportation or not on a daily basis. I would ask that families start thinking about this and if there are any options to help the district with this need it would be appreciated. We are planning on getting as many students in the building following safety protocol as often as possible, but if we needed to transport all of our students, it would limit how often we could accomplish this. More to come in the future. We recognize that there will be some families that opt for distance learning even if students are allowed back into the buildings in some fashion. We understand that and will work to make the experience the best it can be. Distance learning will look different than it did last year. We are working with input families provided last year along with guidance from the state to get more consistent contact with students and engaging the learners more. We are also working to standardize the virtual platform that is used. We are going to need information on technology needs as well as we focus on our plans as we foresee most students needing distance learning at some point throughout the year. Food service questions, childcare questions, and other concerns will all be addressed in the survey as we try to modify our plans to meet as many needs of our families as possible. Thanks in advance for your help in providing information to us and your patience in this planning process. Kevin Grover – Superintendent Melissa Tate, FES Principal Tim Everson, FHS Principal
7-17-2020 update: Greetings from ISD 361 administration. We hope you are enjoying the warm weather we have had and are finding safe ways to relax while enjoying some time at the lake or doing recreational activities. This update is written to let you know that we are busy making tentative plans for what school may look like this fall. There are 3 options being considered for the start of school: all students under a distance learning model, all students back in school with as many precautionary measures as possible, or a hybrid model which is somewhere between the prior two options. . We understand that everyone views these with different lenses and that is completely understandable. Rest assured we are putting considerable time into planning what we can or cannot do under all of the scenarios. The decision from Governor Walz is expected the week of July 27th. We will be able to then give more specifics on what our exact plan will look like following that decision. We will also use the remaining time before school to fine tune the plan and communicate specific details with families. The planning process involves looking at our facilities and mapping out how many students can safely be in each room under the different scenarios, figuring out how we can serve meals in the safest manner, what options we have for transporting students to and from school, how we meet the special needs of our students and families, how we ensure thorough cleaning of our facilities and buses, technology plans, screening procedures, and the list goes on and on. That said, there are sometimes more questions than answers. We are working on a survey in which families can provide us with information that will help us develop a plan that we can successfully implement. We are committed to providing the best educational opportunity in the safest manner possible for our students and staff; that will continue to be our mission. We will put weekly updates out on Facebook and the district webpage until school starts. As mentioned prior we will also be asking for your help to provide us information through a survey. We thank you in advance for your patience as well as providing us your input to help us plan accordingly. Stay safe and enjoy the summer weather. Kevin Grover- Superintendent, Melissa Tate – FES Principal, Tim Everson – FHS

This new program, called Pandemic EBT (P-EBT), will provide $325 per child that families can use to purchase nutritious food for their household. Families with children who received free or reduced-price meals at school, and who were between the ages of 5 and 18 on September 1, 2019, may qualify. Benefits are available to two groups: · Families receiving Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits on March 18, 2020. Benefits for these families were issued automatically and appeared on their EBT balance on May 30, 2020. These families do not need to take any further action. · Families receiving free or reduced-price school meals, but not SNAP or MFIP benefits. These families need to fill out a short application for a P-EBT card. Families can apply between June 8, 2020, and June 30, 2020. If approved, families will receive a P-EBT card in the mail, which will arrive with the funds preloaded. Families in need of assistance accessing or using their P-EBT benefits are urged to contact the P-EBT Hotline at 651-431-4050 or 800-657-3698. If your family or someone you know needs additional ongoing assistance accessing healthy foods, please contact your local tribal or county human services office, visit ApplyMN, or call the Minnesota Food HelpLine at 888-711-1151
